2015 Community House

Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley is challenging  individuals in Washtenaw County to come together to fund our first ever Community House! We’re asking you to partner with us to donate and volunteer on the renovation of one of our current projects that will one day be home to a family like the Smiths. Your gift, no matter the size, will have a significant impact on this project and will help a family realize their dream of homeownership. You will also have an opportunity to volunteer on the Community House if you are interested.

Together we are making a real difference. Please join us.

Meet the Smith Family!

smith family

Hello!

We are the Smiths—Dregary (whom everyone calls Shawn) and Jessica. We have been married for five amazing years and have two of the best boys in the world. Jonathan is our oldest and he is 4 years old and Jordan is a terrific 2 year old.

Shawn works for Faurecia in Saline, Michigan. He enjoys bowling, recreational football and Friday night sports with the family. Jessica is an employee of Ann Arbor Public Schools and currently works at the Preschool and Family Center. She received her degree in education from Eastern Michigan University. Jonathan enjoys learning karate and playing seasonal sports such as soccer, t-ball and flag football. Jonathan is excited to start kindergarten in the fall, and, as he says, “have friends who are my neighbors.” Jordan likes to play hide and seek outside and truly enjoys making others laugh. We look forward to Jordan being able to play in the safety of our backyard this summer.

Our family is so grateful to Habitat for Humanity for partnering with us so that we can own a home, a dream that we thought may not happen. In the fall of 2014 a series of tests and scans revealed that Jonathan has an acute aneurysm on the brain. This news could have broken our spirits but our son Jonathan, being the brave little boy that he is, said “it’s okay I will still be able to play outside of our BIG BIG HOUSE.” Since that moment we have set our hearts on making that a reality for our boys.

God has truly blessed us with a wonderful community of friends and families to partner with.

Thank you, Habitat, and all who partner and volunteer with them!
