Your Local Habitat and Habitat International

What is the difference between the local Habitat and Habitat International?

Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley (HHHV) services Washtenaw County and is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI).  The relationship between local Habitat affiliates like us and HFHI is unique.  HFHI provides operation guidelines; however, each affiliate is independent and governed by their own Boards of Directors.  HHHV is an independent 501(c)(3) organization that raises all money locally here in Washtenaw County.  Habitat relies solely on local support to achieve its mission and goals here in Washtenaw County.  In fact, our affiliate tithes 10% of privately raised, undesignated funds to affiliates abroad, currently in Guatemala and Haiti, creating a “house for a house” ratio of homes built locally to homes built abroad.  Habitat relies solely on local support to achieve its mission and goals here in Washtenaw County.
