We are seeking a detail-oriented, mission-driven Construction Assistant to join our team. The Construction Assistant will be part of the construction team, supporting all other construction staff and reporting to the Construction Manager.
Position Term & Schedule
The Construction Assistant is a full-time, hourly non-exempt position starting immediately. The position will be in the field, where HHHV’s primary construction activities located in Ypsilanti, MI. The normal work schedule is Tuesday – Saturday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm with some evenings and Sundays required. HHHV offers a competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience. Responsibilities and Skills Required
Commitment to serving families with low-incomes and advancing the critical call for affordable homeownership in Washtenaw County
Able to work well as part of a team and show commitment to organizational achievement
Communicate positively with Habitat staff, volunteers, and contractors
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to work unsupervised to complete assigned tasks
Must have reliable transportation to use while on the job
Ability to drive, pick-up and unload materials using personal and company vehicles
Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Must be motivated, self-driven, responsible, and reliable
Ability to coordinate your tasks with those of others and manage multiple responsibilities
Ability to handle frequent change and to work under pressure
Must be able to learn and perform basic construction tasks
Lead volunteer groups under the supervision of the Construction Manager and House Leaders when needed
Some general residential construction knowledge is preferred
Team building experience preferred
Must be a good listener and be able to engage in well-considered discussions
Must have good anticipatory abilities and personally act on same as needs arise
Must be willing to understand the big picture of Habitat and understand that construction is one part of the larger goal
Must seek and provide feedback in constructive manner
Physical Abilities In accordance with the American Disabilities ACT (ADA), this position requires the physical ability to:
Sit, walk, and/or stand for prolonged periods of time
Use all senses, including but not limited to sight and hearing
Stand, stoop, bend, grasp and/or hold in order to complete job duties
Work in non-temperature controlled conditions and out-of-doors
Safely lift at least 25 lbs. on a regular and frequent basis.
