Consumers Refrigerator Replacement Program

Qualifications

You may qualify for a free, Energy Star refrigerator if you meet the following requirements –

1. You are a Homeowner

• if you rent an apartment or house, you are not eligible

• if you own your home outright or have a mortgage, you are eligible

• mobile home owners who pay lot rent are eligible

2. You live in a Single-family Residence (house or mobile home only)

3. You have a Consumers Energy Residential Electric account

4. Your existing refrigerator was manufactured prior to December 2015*

5. You agree to having your existing refrigerator removed at the time of delivery for safe recycling and disposal of all components

6. Your annual household income must not exceed the maximum amounts shown below OR have a household member participating in one of the following qualified assistance programs:

DHS (Department of Human Services)              FIP (Family Independence Program)        
SER (State Emergency Relief) SSI (Supplemental Security Income)                  
WIC (Women, Infants & Children)                      SDA (State Disability Assistance)
THAW (The Heat & Warmth Fund)                     WAP (Weatherization Assistance Program)
TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)                 
LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program)

7. You must provide documentation to support either the household income or the participation in one of the programs above. Examples include paystub(s), award letter, bank statement, participation letter, proof of eligibility. You will be asked to upload, email, fax or mail this documentation to Habitat.

*To determine the age of your refrigerator, locate the model number and serial number. The tag with this information is typically found inside the refrigerator, often on one of the side walls near the top or on the face of the frame near the bottom of the unit. You should not need to pull your refrigerator out to find the tag. Then go to Appliance Age Finder at www.homespy.io to determine its age.
