Critical Home Repair
Utility bills are usually right behind mortgage payments as the most expensive monthly costs of owning a home. Homes in our community that are insufficiently insulated or have outdated appliances are often financial burdens to their homeowners. Many Families are just getting by, and cannot afford to upgrade their homes.
Our Critical Repair Program aims to alleviate this pressure on low-income residents in Washtenaw County. By making homes more energy efficient, we can help families save on their monthly utility bills as well as reduce their impact on the environment to create a more economically and environmentally sustainable county.
We are very thankful for our neighborhood partnership with Ypsilanti Township where most of our critical repairs take place. Since 2012, we have upgraded 22 homes – helping these partner families save an average of $500 a year and saving approximately 84 tons of emitted greenhouse gases each year.
